Cylinder Platform Escapement.
Serviced and on test, it didnt loose or gain any time over night. will give it a full wind and put it on an 8 day test.
Thomas Tompion (1639-1713) is reputed to have made the first cylinder escapement. A single -beat escapement in which a small solid steel cylinder with a flat at one side. When Tomion had died this escapement was really developed upon by George Graham in 1725 who first made it in its present form. it is to therefore to Graham that the cylinder escapement as now known, is generally attributed.
This Platform Escapement took up production on the continent far more then in this country and large numbers were produced in Switzerland and France .
The escapement wheel tooth enters the cylinder and gives impulse to the balance. On leaving the cylinder gives impulse to the balance as well. The cylinder is made from hardened steel and the escapement wheel is to. So over time wear is going to take place on the teeth and the cylinder. some teeth more then others so one tooth you might get more impulse then another over time.
This platform cylinder escapement needs to be serviced regularly otherwise they will wear quicker and give bad time performance.
